Does It Matter Anymore

It’s difficult to get excited about life these days. We’re drowning in debt, Social Security will soon be insolvent, our elected officials are corrupt liars (yet they all still have loyal constituencies, calling into question the brain power of those people), corporations have taken control of the world, our healthcare system is broken, our education system is broken, AI is going to take our jobs, Greenhouse gases will soon make the planet unlivable, western nations are experiencing demographic collapse, digital media overwhelms us daily with a torrent of information that we can’t possibly verify in order to sift out some honesty, and everyone seems to be simultaneously angry…yet self righteous about what’s wrong and how to fix it. NOTE: This is a small subset of the massive number of issues currently at play.

I don’t see much (any) hope. Things are not going to get fixed. They are going to collapse. Our standard of living is going to plummet. There will be more division, hatred and violence. Convince me otherwise.

No one is coming to solve these problems. The “elites” have been busy circling the wagons of power and economic control, in order to protect themselves, and to suppress the rest of us, when the inevitable social upheaval begins. They control the energy and the information. They control the money. They control the people who control the weapons. I don’t see a rosy outcome. I see a more subjugated, controlled society, enslaved to the systems of the elite.

I wonder if these are the thoughts that Gen Z has? Perhaps this is at the heart of why they don’t embrace “Boomer” values. Perhaps this is why Millennials and Gen Z don’t rush to get married or have children.

Perhaps we need to pull in the reins on this runaway mess. How do we accomplish this? I don’t see a way. All I know is that we’d better find a way to give our children and grandchildren hope for a better tomorrow, or everything we’ve tried to build…doesn’t matter anymore.
